New England Equal Best Winning Streak From Brady Era with Triumph Over New York Jets
Rookie Henderson has scored five TDs during the current campaign
The New England Patriots tied their top unbeaten stretch since the Tom Brady period as they beat AFC East opponents the New York Jets 27-14 in professional football
Rookie Henderson was the standout with three touchdowns as the Patriots claimed an eighth straight win for the first time since iconic QB Brady's last year with the franchise in the 2019 season
Quarterback Drake Maye threw for 281 passing yards and a touchdown, connecting on 25 of 34 passes
The win increases the Patriots lead at the top of the AFC East as they improved to nine wins and two defeats, with the New York bottom after falling to two victories and eight defeats
The opposing team had scored first at Foxborough with QB Justin Fields scoring a short rushing score to finish the Jets' opening drive
But the home team responded in the second quarter as Henderson rushed for two short rushing scores before the running back caught a pass from Maye at the rear of the endzone midway through the third quarter to make it 21-7
"That was a key occasion for him rising to the challenge, and it's been great for him to keep earning playing time," Maye commented on the rookie. "He wants to be excellent."
Fields found John Metchie in the latter part of the third period to narrow the deficit for the Jets but Andy Borregales kicked a pair of field goals in the final period as the Patriots closed out the triumph
