Marnus Labuschagne Omitted from Australia's ODI Lineup Versus Team India

The Australian selectors have left out Labuschagne from Australia's three-match ODI series against India, with in-form Queensland teammate Matt Renshaw getting a unexpected inclusion.

Performance Issues Lead to Exclusion

The right-hander was left out from the one-day international team following managing only a single run in each of his two innings during the top-end series against South Africa in August. Labuschagne has a highest score of 47 in his last 10 ODI batting appearances.

The batsman has featured in 68 one-day internationals and scored 1,871 runs at an average of 34.64 runs per dismissal, but will now work towards a Test team comeback in time for the Ashes starting in Perth on November 21.

Renshaw's Return and Team Changes

Labuschagne has shown signs of a return to form with 160 for Queensland in the domestic first-class competition this week, while Renshaw also hit a hundred for the Bulls in the same game against Tasmania.

Renshaw could to make his white-ball international debut in the forthcoming series against India after his last inclusion in an ODI squad in 2022.

Renshaw has played 14 Test matches with the most recent appearance in India in 2023 but is also seeking a red-ball recall as Australia search for a answer to their batting top-order problems.

Bowling Returns and Fitness Updates

Left-arm quick Mitchell Starc returns for the ODI series against India after being rested since performing well for Australia in the 3-0 Test series sweep of West Indies in July.

BBL performer Mitch Owen could make his ODI debut after being concussed in the lead up to Australia’s previous 50-over series against South Africa.

Skipper Pat Cummins remains on the sidelines as he aims to recover from a back injury in time to lead Australia in the first Ashes Test in November.

Team Announcement Approach and Fixtures

Australia have named a squad for only the initial two T20 matches against India with the Ashes on the horizon, although Glenn Maxwell will be absent for the five-match series due to a wrist injury sustained in New Zealand.

Mitch Marsh will captain both the ODI and T20 sides after hitting a ton in the last match against New Zealand to seal a 2-0 series win last week.

“Selectors have announced a squad for the ODI series and initial two matches of the T20 series as there will be player management through the back end of the series as individuals prepare for the summer through Sheffield Shield cricket,” selection chief George Bailey said.
“The majority of the T20 squad will remain together as it’s an important period in the build towards the World Cup next year, however we are trying to strike a balance to ensure we simultaneously get ready certain individuals for the Test matches ahead.”

Australia’s three-game ODI series against India starts on 19 October in Perth, before the opponents play five T20 internationals from October 29.
