Learners Share Worries That AI Is Weakening Their Academic Capabilities, Study Finds
As per new study, learners are voicing concerns that employing machine intelligence is negatively impacting their capacity to study. A significant number complain it makes schoolwork “too easy”, while others say it hinders their creativity and prevents them from acquiring new skills.
Extensive Utilization of AI By Pupils
A study examining the utilization of AI in United Kingdom educational institutions revealed that merely 2% of learners between the ages of 13 and 18 stated they did not use artificial intelligence for their schoolwork, while the vast majority reported they regularly utilized it.
Unfavorable Effect on Abilities
In spite of artificial intelligence's prevalence, 62% of the students said it has had a negative impact on their abilities and growth at their educational institution. One in four of the students affirmed that AI “makes it too easy for me to find the answers without doing the work myself”.
A further 12% indicated artificial intelligence “limits my creative thinking”, while similar numbers reported they were less inclined to solve problems or compose originally.

These discoveries align with scientific investigations on the utilization of AI in education. One analysis evaluated cognitive signals while composition tasks among participants using large language models and concluded: “The outcomes highlight worries regarding the enduring academic consequences of dependency on AI and emphasize the necessity for further exploration of its educational impact.”
Almost 50% of the numerous students surveyed said they were worried their fellow students were “covertly employing artificial intelligence” for schoolwork without their educators being able to detect it.
Call for Support and Constructive Aspects
Numerous students reported that they sought more help from educators for the correct use of artificial intelligence and in evaluating whether its results was trustworthy. An initiative intended to assisting educators with artificial intelligence instruction is being initiated.

Only 31% indicated they didn’t think utilizing AI had a unfavorable effect on any of their skills. But, the bulk of pupils said using AI aided them develop new skills, such as 18% who said it aided them grasp challenges, and 15% who said it aided them generate “innovative and improved” concepts.

At the same time, a boy of age 14 claimed: “I now think faster than I used to.”
